Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix cake according to package directions with the oil, eggs, and water. Separate into two bowls.

To the first bowl add one stick of the melted butter and 1/2 can of sweetened condensed milk. Pour into a greased and floured cake pan and bake for 20 minutes.

|
While baking, in a saucepan put the other stick of butter and the rest of the sweetened condensed milk and the caramels. Blend until melted, but do not over cook. Add nuts.

As soon as the cake is done, remove from the oven and pour on the caramel mixture immediately and then pour on the rest of the cake mixture. Bake an additional 20 minutes. After baking, either top with the frosting of your choice, whipped cream or leave plain.
