     Gingerbread Houses and Frostings

Ingredients
5 to 5 1/2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
2 t. ginger
2 t. cinnamon
1 t. nutmeg
1 t. cloves
1 c. melted shortening (warm, not hot)
1 c. sugar
 
1 1/4 c. molasses
2 beaten eggs

Instructions
Mix all ingredients, adding flour last, gradually. Roll out dough and cut house pieces. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes. Makes 4 houses. To make stained glass, bake 7 minutes, cut out windows, fill with crushed life savers (line with foil) and bake a few more minutes until melted.
For Royal Frosting (cement)- Beat 3 egg whites, 4 3/4 c. powdered sugar, 1 t. vanilla, 1/2 t. cream of tartar 7-10 minutes until stiff. Keep covered with a damp cloth while not using.
For Fluffy Frosting (snow)- Bring 1 c. sugar, 1/3 c. water, and 1/4 t. cream of tartar to a boil in a saucepan. Slowly add the sugar mixture to 2 egg whites beating constantly until stiff (about 7 minutes). Then add 1 t. vanilla.
