     Chocolate Chip Cake

Ingredients
1 Cup Dates, cut up
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1 Cup Hot Water
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Shortening, partly butter
2 Eggs
1 3/4 Cups Gold Medal Flour, sifted
1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder
1 Cup Chocolate Chips
 
1/2 - 1 Cup English Walnuts, chopped

Instructions
Mix together dates, baking soda and water. Set aside until cool.
Cream together shortening and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time. Cream until well mixed.
Sift together flour and cocoa. Add 1/2 of the chocolate chips and 1/2 of the nuts to the batter. (The remaining 1/2 will be sprinkled on top of the batter.)
Pour batter into a greased 9x13 inch cake pan. Sprinkle remaining chips and nuts on top. Bake at 350 degrees until done.
