Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl.
Cut in ¼ C. butter with pastry blender until crumbs form. Add milk and vanilla; stir just until moistened (Vivi, that is a very import step).
Spread batter in greased 8-inch square pan. Dot batter with ¼ C. butter. Mix together brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over top of batter.
Bake in 350 degree oven 35 minutes OR until golden brown. Cool in pan or rack. Can be served
warm or cold. Makes 6 to 8 servings. I doubled this recipe for a 9 X 13 pan and the 35 minutes baking time is more like 45-50 at this (Tucson) altitude. When “barely done” it is so moist!
