In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the jalapenos and garlic and cook, stirring often for two minutes. Add 2 cups of water, the milk, salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
Add the grits and ix well. Return to a simmer and cook until the grits are creamy and thick, 5 to 7 minutes. Add the cheese and mix well. continue cooking and mixing until the cheese is fully incorporated. If the grits get too thick add a little more milk to thin them out. Serve immediately
