• Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
• Combine juice from 2 lemons with ½ cup
sugar, and stir frequently until sugar is
dissolved. Set aside.
• Cream shortening and sugar, blend in
eggs, then buttermilk.

• Sift flour, salt and baking soda, add
lemon zest and blend in. Add flour mixture to
creamed mixture and stir just until blended.
Stir in nuts.
• Divide batter equally between two 9 ½ x 5
½ x 2 3/4 inch bread pans or three 8 ½ x 4 ½ x 2
½ inch bread pans.

• Bake for 40-55 minutes, depending on oven
and size of bread pans. Place on racks and let
cool for 5 minutes.

• Pour lemon juice sugar mixture over loaves
and let sit for ½ hour. Remove from pans and let
cool.
