Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9x13 casserole dish. In a skillet, cook and crumble sausage. Drain grease. In a large bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients until smooth or use a blender if preferred. Pour batter into casserole dish. Be sure to scrape off sides of the bowl. Add cooked sausage on top of batter, scattering evenly. Press slightly into batter so that it just barely sinks down. Bake about 25 minutes until golden. Let cool 5-10 minutes before slicing. Top with more syrup, if desired.
