In a large pot, cook pasta al dente, drain, and toss with butter or ol.
Set aside. In a medium pot, melt butter then slowly add flour. Cook
for 1 minute. While whisking gradually add milk. Simmer for about 5
minutes until thick. (Basic white sauce.)
Whisk in the egg. Season with nutmeg, salt and pepper.
Place pasta into a 2 quart baking dish. Add diced ham to the sauce,
then pour sauce over the pasta. Spread evenly.
Sprinkle grated cheese on first, then the breadcrumbs. Place dollops
of butter on top, OR you can just make buttered bread crumbs. Bake
at 400 deg. for 20 minutes until golden brown.
