Cream shortening and sugars. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, salt and soda together. Fold into creamed mixture along with the oats and nuts. Roll into small balls and place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Make refrigerator cookies by forming dough into rolls 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Chill thoroughly. Just before baking, slice cookies 1/4 inch thick, place on baking sheet and bake as above.
