     Gratin dauphinois

Ingredients
6 large potatoes (peeled) russet frm US or ratte from france
Garlic chopped
500 ml Single cream (whipping cream)
500 ml Full cream milk
Fresh Thyme leaves
Fine salt
Freshly Grated pepper
Freshly Grated nutmeg pepper (buy whole nutmeg)
Grated Gruyere/Cottage Cheese
 

Instructions
Boil milk and cream, add garlic, nutmeg, salt, pepper and thyme. taste and adujust seasoning.
Add potato into the mixture from step 1. bring to boil again. carefully place the potate into baking dish. pour mixture over and ensure that cream and milk just cover the potatoes. add more milk if not enough liquid
Sprinkle grated cheese on top and bake in over at 180-200 degree for 30-40 mins. Add cheese and bake for another 5 mins until golden brown on surface
To ensure that potatoes are cooked, insert a knife into potato slices. Potato should have little resistnace when the knife pierce through
