     Cake-to-go with Caramel Glaze

Ingredients
Basic Buttermilk Cake
Caramel Glaze-
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 1/2 tbsp. unsalted butter
a pinch of salt
 

Instructions
Make the batter as directed in the basic cake recipe. Scrape batter into a buttered 9 x 13 x 2 inch pan and spread to edges. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, until toothpick inserted into the center into the center comes out clean. Cook cake completely in a pan on a rack.
Place glaze ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir with a wooden spoon and bring to a simmer; then reduce heat slightly.
Simmer for 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until glaze is thickened. Cool until barely warm.
Pour about half the glaze over the top of the cake and spread to edges with a spatula. Drizzle remaining glaze over cut pieces of cake when serving.
