Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
8 tablespoon cocoa or 2 one ounce squares unsweetened chocolate
3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup nuts, coarsely cut
 

Instructions
Melt shortening and chocolate together over hot water. Cool. Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Beat eggs until light. Add sugar; then chocolate mixture and blend. Add flour, vanilla and nuts. Mix well.
Pour batter into waxed paper lined 8 inch square pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
