Buttered 9x9 inch pan.
1 1/2 quarts sour cherries pitted (fresh or frozen)
1 1/2 cups water
4 tablespoons cornstarch
2/3 cups vanilla sugar or 2/3 cups sugar plus 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon chinese 5 spice
Topping-
1/4 cup butter firm but softened
1/2 cup brown sugar packed
 
1 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
2 teasoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon chinese 5 spice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
