Heat large dutch oven over medium-high heat. Remove casings from sausage.
Add sausage, onion, bell pepper, garlic, ground beef and jalapeno.

Cook, stirring to crumble, until sausage and beef are browned (about 8 minutes). Add chili powder, brown sugar, cumin, tomato paste, oregano, pepper, salt and bay leaves. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Stir in wine, tomatoes, and beans. Bring to a boil.
Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Uncover and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Discard bay leaves. Sprinkle each serving with cheese.
