      Pickles, Mom's Bread and Butter

4 qts medium cucumbers sliced
2 green peppers sliced
1/3 cup coarse medium salt
3 cups cider vinegar
2 tablespoons mustard seed
6 medium white onions, sliced
3 cloves garlic
5 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons celery seed
1 1/2 teaspoons tumeric

Slice cucumbers. Put cucumbers, onions, pepers and garlic cloves in large enough container to cover with cracked ice. Sprinkle salt over veggies, cover with cracked ice and let stand for 3 hours. Drain Well.
Combine remaining ingrdients, and veggies in large pot and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and pack in hot jars. Process in a boiling water bath or steamer according to directions for where you live, high altitude, etc.
