Add 1/2 cup sugar, fruit, cornstarch, and water to medium saucepan. Boil 1 minute stirring constantly. Pour into a shallow baking dish and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Mix together flour, baking powder, 1 TBS sugar and salt. Cut in shortening. Mix in milk. Drop by tsp fulls on top of fruit.
Bake 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
