Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage. Cut the cabbage in halves.
Remove the core. Wash and shred cabbage very thinly.
Put a little butter in a saucepan and 1 cup of water. Add cabbage,
cloves, peeled, cored and sliced apples. Simmer with a tight fitting
lid for 45 minutes.
Add rest of the butter, the sugar and some vinegar. Simmer for
another 5 minutes.
