2 t. baking powder
|

1 t. salt

1 c. chopped nuts

1/2 c. dates
|

1/2 c. and 2 T. melted shortening

2 c. brown sugar

2 eggs beaten

2 t. vanilla
|

Instructions |

|
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add nuts and optional dates.
|

|
Combine shortening, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla and add to dry ingredients. Mix well.
|

|
Spread thinly in greased and floured 9x13 inch pan. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool and cut into squares.
