Chop the onion and sweat for 2-3 min in a 2 qt pot with the butter and a heavy pinch of salt. Add the minced garlic and sweat for another 2 minutes or until slightly browned.
Add the chicken broth, dried split peas and curry powder. Bring to a boil, add sliced sausage/kielbasa, then reduce the heat and simmer for 45-50min or until the peas stop holding their shape.
Serve maybe with thick brown bread.
