In pot, heat oil over med heat; add onion; cook until soft. Add garlic; cook for 30 seconds. Add rice; cook for 4 mins or until hot; remove from heat.
Add bay leaf/cloves/tomato paste/allspice/salt/pepper and stir well. Stir in coconut milk and water. Increase heat to med high; bring to boil. Reduce to simmer; cover for 18 mins or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
Add kidney beans; stir well. Cover and cook for 2 mins. Discard bay leaf and cloves before eating.
