     Frosted Cookie Canes

Category   Desserts - Breads
Sub Category   None

Ingredients
1 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
Frosting-

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp peppermint extract
milk
red food coloring

Instructions
Cream butter. Gradually add sugar, vanilla, salt and sifted dry ingredients. Chill. Roll a spoonfull of dough into a snake and place on cookie sheet bent into candy cane shape. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes or until brown on bottom.
Frosting- Mix all the ingredients together except the red food coloring. Seperate into two bowls. Dye the frosting in one bowl with the red food coloring and leave the other white.
The easiest way to frost is to cheat. You are supposed to frost alternating the colors, but if you make the white frosting thin enough to dip the cookies into, you only have to make the stripes with the red frosting.
After frosting the cookies with the white frosting, place them on a wire rack. Put another cookie sheet below the rack to catch the drips, and then make the red stripes by drizzling the frosting back and forth over the cookies. Let them sit until completely dry.
