     Basic Buttercream Icing

Ingredients
1 c unsalted butter, room temperature
use vegetable shortening for pure white
1/2 c milk room temperature, not 2%
2 t vanilla or other desired flavoring
2 lbs confectioners sugar
 

Instructions
Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl at slow speed until smooth. If a stiffer icing is needed or if the weather is very warm add a little extra sugar.
This is enough for a 9x13 sheet cake or 2 9 inch layers.
