Heat oven to 350. In large bowl, beat sugars and shortening until creamy. Add egg, water and vanilla, beat well. Add combined dry ingredients and mix well.
Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 11-13 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Remove to wire rack, cool comepletely and store tightly covered.
This is really the best recipe. May add 1 c of any of the following, or combination of- raisins, nuts, coconut, or chocolate chips.
