Category   Desserts - Breads
Sub Category   None
Servings   8

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups slivered almonds
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 teaspoons almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs

1 tablespoon sugar
Sliced strawberries, if desired
Sweetened whipped cream, if desired

Instructions
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spread almonds in ungreased shallow pan. Bake uncovered about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown; cool. Finely chop; set aside.
Grease round pan, 9x1 1/2 inch. Mix flour, 1 cup sugar, the baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Stir in almonds, butter, almond extract, vanilla and eggs until stiff dough forms (dough will be slightly crumbly). Shape into 1-inch balls. Place in pan. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar.
Bake about 30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire rack. Cut into wedges. Serve with strawberries and whipped cream.
