Sub Category   None

Ingredients
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup crisco
1/3-1/2 cups icewater
5-10 apples
cinnamon
honey
lemon juice

2 egg whites

Instructions
Thanksgiving is the one time of year when my hectic family will actually sit down and enjoy a meal together. With some people the center of the meal is the turkey, or maybe even the stuffing, but we knew better. As the meal winds down, our minds begin to wander towards the thought of my grandma's apple pie. The flaky crust surrounding the decadent apple filling will cause even the deepest tryptophan coma to all but disappear. Cinnamon and pure honey combine to create this blissful concotion finished off with a squirt of lemon for just a smidge of tartness. So grab a slice, sit yourself down, and prepare your tastebuds for a journey they will never forget.
First mix your flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Then add in your butter and crisco, and cut into the dry mix with a pastry cutter, knife, or fork until it has a sandy, or gravely texture. Seaperate the mix into thirds, and take 1/3rd in a seaperate bowl. Slowly add the ice water, and mix thouroughly. Add this mix to your other dry ingredients and mix lightly, if it gets too much attention it begins to lose its tenderness. Take your newly formed dough, wrap in plastic wrap, and put in fridge for about an hour.
While waiting on the dough peel, core, and slice your apples. Be sure to squirt with lemon juice, or keep in cold water to prevent browning. Remove and half your dough from the fridge and roll into a disc shape. Butter your pie pan first, then place your rolled out crust in the pan. Brush egg whites on the dough to prevent seapage, and start to fill with sliced apples. after your first layer sprinkle on the cinnamon, and cover with honey, and a bit of flour. Continue this process until the pie is full. Cut a few pats of butter, and place on top.
Roll out the other half of the dough, and place on top of your pie. Cut a few holes in the top for steam to escape. Brush the edges with your egg whites, and crimp closed to seal your pie. now place your pie in a preheated oven at 375 for 55 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool, and enjoy!
Serving Suggestions
