Mix sugar, water, egg whites, corn syrup and salt in top of double boiler.
Beat about 1 minute to blend thoroughly. Place over boiling water. Beat constantly with electric mixer on high speed until frosting stands in stiff peaks, about 7 minutes, scraping sides occasionally with rubber scraper.
Remove from boiling water. Immediately pour into large bowl. Add vanilla; beat until thick enough to spread, about 1 minute.
Makes about 5 1/3 cups.
