     Buttermilk Cake

Ingredients
1 cup butter(1/2 lb.)
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. cream of tartar
4 egg whites stiffly beaten
2 cups sugar
3 cups sifted cake flour
1 tsp soda
1 cup buttermilk
 

Instructions
Cream butter well, add sugar. Beat until fluffy.Add egg yolks one at a time. Beat well.Sift dry ingredients several times and add alternately with buttermilk. Beat well. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into 9x13 inch greased cake pan. Bake 45-50 minutes, at 350.
Topping 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 3 T butter, 3 T cream, Mix until well blended and spread on warm cake. Sprinkle angel flake coconut on top and place under broiler for 4-5 minutes. WATCH CAREFULLY, SO AS NOT TO BURN. Or until lightly browned.
