Cream shortenings, sugar, eggs, vanilla and salt. Mix 3 cups of flour with soda, salt and cream of tartar. Add to sugar mixture. If mixture appears too soft add up to 1 cup of flour to make stiff dough. Mix nuts in by hand or with mixer on slow.
Shape dough into 2 logs. Cover in saran wrap and place in refrigerator overnight. Bake at 375 until golden and puffiness has gone down. 10-12 minutes.
