Put sliced cucumbers and onins in salt water and chill for several hours to make them real crisp.
Drain very well.
Mix equal parts of sour cream and mayonaise. Enough to cover the cukes and onions. Also add a little vinegar (about 1 Tbs) and sugar, approx 2 Tbls to the sour cream mixture. Pour over cucumbers and mix well.
