Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, beat butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add vanilla, cocoa and melted chocolate; beat well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to mix. Add to chocolate mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating just until combined. Stir in sauerkraut, currants, pecans, and chocolate chips. Spread batter in a greased 12x18 inch sheet cake pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool before cutting into 48 (1 ½ x 3-inch) bars.
