cream butter, add soda, cardamom and salt. mix well and gradually blend in sugar. beat in eggs. sift together flour and cream of tartar. gradually stir into butter mixture. chill dough until stiff enough to handle, about 3-4 hours.
shape chilled dough into half inch balls. place on ungreased cookie sheets. dip fork in flour and press into each cookie criss cross style.
Bake 350 for 10 minutes.
