Preheat oven to 375°F. Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla. Beat in
eggs, one at a time. Combine flour and baking soda and gradually
add to butter mixture and mix. Add milk and mix.
Melt chocolate in water and add baking soda. Add half of batter to
chocolate. Grease cake pan and pour batter in, alternating between
chocolate and vanilla. If desired, swirl batter to make marble. Bake
for 1 hour.
