Dissolve sugar, salt and dry milk in the hot water. Add enough flour to make a soupy like mixture. Just add slowly until it looks right to you. When the mixture is no longer hot but still warm add the yeast and stir well. Add the rest of the flour--enought to form a moderately stiff dough. Knead the dough until smooth. ( I did this in my Kitchen Aid mixer). Now roll the dough into a rectangular shape the size of your baking pan. Spread half of the butter onto the bottom of the pan and then place the dough into the pan. Spread remaining butter on the top of the dough. (I skipped this part and just sprayed Parkay Butter Spray on the top just to save a few calories but if you really want them to taste like PH breadsticks then you should probably use the butter! -) Top of dough with topping of your choice or just leave them plain. Cut the dough into breadsticks (a pizza cutter works great) and let raise for 15 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 or until golden brown.
