     French Toast Casserole

Ingredients
2 tsp butter, softened
8 slices of white bread cut into 1 inch cubes
7 large eggs
2 cups milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup maple syrup
4 tbsp powdered sugar
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
 
1/2 cup pecans (optional)

Instructions
Grease a 9x13 baking dish with butter and fill dish with the bread cubes, distributing evenly.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, maple syrup, 2 tbsp sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour this mixture over the bread cubes and press down over the surface of the casserole with a spatula to help the bread soak up the liquid.
Sprinkle the top with the remaining sugar. Cover tightly with alluminum foil and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and place the still covered casserole on middle rack. Bake 30 minutes, remove foil, and bake an additional 30-35 min until puffy and brown.
Serving Suggestions
Serve and top with additional syrup and pecans if desired.
