Ingredients
1 pound beef stew meat
6 cups water
1 half can or half 12 ounce bottle of beer
1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 bay leave
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
5 beef bouillon cubes
 
5 large carrots, peeled, and chopped one inch thick
5 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped two inch thick
1 large yellow onion roughly chopped
1 slice thick cut bacon
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup cornstarch

Instructions
Add salt, pepper, and thyme to flour, toss beef in flour mixture.
Lightly simmer bacon in large pot a few minutes turning to grease bottom of pot. Add beef pieces and brown all sides.
Add the rest of the ingredients except cornstarch. Cover. Turn heat to low and simmer one hour.
Whisk cornstarch together with 1 cup warm water. While stirring stew, slowly pour in cornstarch mixture until well bended. Simmer, uncovered, five more minutes. Remove from heat, let cool ten minutes to thicken.
Serving Suggestions
This hearty stew is even better the next day. Pack in lunches. Recipe can easily be modified to feed large crowds.
