Boil macaroni 8-10 minutes. Drain, rinse well, and return to pot. Meanwhile, scramble and brown hamburger, drain off grease, salt, and add to pot.
Add cheese, onion, and mushroom and heat on medium, stirring often until heated through, mixing in garlic to taste (and salt if necessary). Serve.
For an interesting alternative, prepare above recipe, remove from heat, and stir in 1/2 - 1 can well-drained seasoned diced tomatoes with diced green chilies.
