Sift dry ingredients and set aside. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy and beat in sugar gradually. Add eggs, one at a time, beating. Add vanilla and alternate pumpkin with dry ingredients. Bake in 350 degrees oven for 1 1/2 hours.
Glaze- Mix 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon water or more until right consistency. Glaze cake while hot.
