Pour boiling water over quick cooking oats and set aside to cool. Cream brown sugar, white sugar and shortening, add 2 beaten eggs. Add flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Stir oatmeal and add to mixture. Bake in a well greased and floured pan 9 x 13. Bake 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees.

Mix 1 stick softened butter, a cup brown sugar, 2 egg yolks, 1/2 cup coconut, 1 cup nuts and 2 Tbs milk together well and spread on cake. Return to oven and brown.
