Fry bacon until crisp and drain on paper towels. If you cook fresh green beans, add 1 Tablespoon water, cover and cook for 3 minutes. Uncover and cook for additional 10 minutes. If you cook canned green beans, 4 minutes of cooking time is enough. Cook onion in bacon drippings until translucent. Stir onion and 1/2 teaspoon salt into beans and cook for 1 minute. Crumble bacon and add just before serving.
