Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water in a medium saucepan just until tender. Do not overcook. Combine bread crumbs, parmesan and 2 T melted butter in a bowl and mix well. Shred the cheddar and reserve 1/2 c for the topping. Drain macaroni and return to pan. Add 1/4 c butter and remaining cheddar cheese and mix well. Cook over medium heat for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Grease our 8x8 baking dish or 2 qt covered casserole. Pour in the macaroni mixture. Sprinkle with the reserved cheddar. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven adn stir. Top with bread crumb mixture. Bake 15 minutes longer.
