Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine raisins and water in small saucepan; bring to a boil; Cook for 3 minutes; remove from heat and let cool (do not drain).
In mixing bowl, cream shortening; gradually add sugar.
Add eggs and vanilla, mix well.
Combine dry ingredients; Gradually add to creamed mixture; Blend thoroughly.
Stir in nuts and raisins; mix well.
Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet.
Bake 12-14 minutes.
Move sheet to wire rack; cool on sheet 2 minutes then move cookie to wire rack to Cool completely.
