Simmer the sugar, lime juice, water, lime zest strips adn cardamom in a small saucepan for 1 minute or until the sugar is dissolved, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat. Let stand until cool. Strain the syrup, discarding the lime zest. To serve, combine the melon balls and syrup in medium bowl. Spoon into 6 glasses. Garnish with julienned strips of lime peel and mint leaves or serve with a generous dollop of whipped cream or yogurt.
