Cream together oleo, sugar, sift dry ingredients together, add to oleo and sugar mixture. Add beaten egg yolks and sweet potatoes. Mix ingredients, add nuts to mixture and stir in. Add buttermilk and mix. Fold in stiff egg whites and vanilla.
Grease and flour rectangular baking pan(9x13). Set oven to 350 F. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes until done.
Icing- 3/4 cup sugar, 3/4 cup canned milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1 stick butter, 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts and 1 cup coconut. Mix thoroughly, pour into sauce pan and boil for 7 minutes.
Ice cake while hot.
