Oven 190 deg C.
Pour Boiling water over dates and bicarb and allow
to stand , then mash finely.
Cream butter and sugar.
Add eggs and mix well.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt, mix
alternately with date mixture into creamed
mixture.
Add nuts and vanilla.
Pour into 2 pie dishes or a large oven dish.
Bake for about 25 minutes, until cooked through.
Boil water, sugar and butter together for 5 min.
Add brandy and and vanilla.
Pour Sauce over cake, prick to help it soak in.
