Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
In a bowl, toss coconut, sugar and salt (and cake meal).
Add egg whites and work in with wooden spoon to form a
dough.

Shape heaping teaspoons of dough into balls. Place on
lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool 5
minutes; then remove to rack to cool completely.

To dip macaroons in chocolate-
Place 6 oz. chocolate (I use chocolate chips) in a microwave
safe bowl with 1 T shortening.
Heat on high for about 25 seconds. Stir- the chocolate will
melt together more. Continue to heat for 10 seconds at a
time and stir until nicely melted together.
Dip cooled macaroons and let set.

Add other flavorings if you like! Almond or vanilla extract would be great.
