Pour oil in 3-quart heavy sauce pan; heat to 375
degrees F. Combine cornmeal, flour and sugar. Set
aside.
Add egg, buttermilk and milk to another mixing
bowl, sit well, set aside.
Add onions into flour mixture, toss well.
Add both mixtures together and stir just until
moistened. Let stand 10 minutes.
Drop batter by round tablespoonfuls into hot oil,
fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
