Combine one cake mix (any kind - I used lemon) with one can, minus 1/4 cup, of diet soda (I used 7-up). Mix until smooth. Pour in 9x13 pan and bake according to directions on box.
For topping, I use fat-free Cool Whip. With the lemon cake, I like to add a few tbs. of lemon zest to the carton of Cool Whip.
If you want to keep the topping food-storage friendly, use Dream Whip instead of Cool Whip.
