Saute mushrooms in butter. Put aside in bowl. Fry
3 pieces of bacon and set aside. Brown stewing
beef in bacon drippings. Blend in flour. Add the
sugar, salt, thyme, bay leaf,peppercorn, beef
broth, red cooking wine then cover and let simmer
for 1 hour. Add onions, mushrooms and bacon. May
also add more wine.
