In a large mixing bowl, combine the applesauce, butter and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups flour, sugar, baking soda, allspice, cloves, cinnamon and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring. Stir in the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. The pan should be about half full. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely before cutting and serving.
