2 - 3 16 oz cans baked beans, (whatever brand is favorite)
1 lb finely diced meat, (ham or turkey ham)
1-2 apples finely diced (depends on how large a batch)
1 medium onion
1/2 c ketchup
1/4 c honey if the beans are more salty than sweet
1/4 brown sugar or add 1 Tbsp molasses
Instructions
Put the beans in a slow cooker on high, dice the
ham and add it, no big chunks, peel the apples,
dice finely, add to the slow cooker.
Dice the onion, brown with 1 tbsp of oil until
transparent, add to the slow cooker. Add the rest
of the above ingredients.
Now, here you can stop if you like, I add a bit of
cinnamon and nutmeg to just spice it up a bit.
That is optional depending on the beans, there are
so many types of baked beans, some pretty spicy
already, some not so much.
This takes about 2 or 3 hours to really cook up
and all the flavors to blend. Great throw
together and do other stuff.
If you make this from plain beans you've cooked
up then you will need to add more of all the
condiment type items and maybe a can of tomato
sauce.
Intended to be an easy put together side dish
for most any time.
